Who Is JJ Savaunt?

JJ Savaunt is a pen name that came to me in 2020.

In 2020, I was on the verge of divorce and in the midst of wanting to shed my old life, my old name had to go as well.

I believe what you call yourself is who you are, even more so, it's who you art.

In the Holy Bible there are several instances where the word "art" appears in the way modern English uses the word "are" and it's always fascinated me.

Like in Matthew 6:9, Jesus teaches us how to pray and says the following:

9Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.

The word art they way it is used is intriguing.

Art means the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. However, art as a verb is painting the object and holding it to the standard of a masterpiece.

Example:

Who art you?

The question means taking into consideration everything about yourself, above all, what

makes you intrinsically unique. It pulls at your core unraveling the idea of what makes you a work of art.

Who art JJ Savaunt?

I say all this to say that JJ Savaunt is a persona of this incredibly talented writer. She's been grinding for the past 4-5 years honing her craft. At times she's wanted to give up, but writing is like a menstrual cycle she inconveniences you when she arrives, but you would know something was wrong if she left you alone for too long.

So, writing refused to leave me and I made her a comfy room in my cerebellum. She taught me how to search for novel contests. She encouraged me to apply no matter what, you can't win if you're not in the race. She showed me how to use rejection emails as fuel and how to feed them to my ambition. Now writing has done wonders for me: JJ Savaunt.

JJ Savaunt is now a member of Crime Writers of Color. She's published a novel with Bloodhound Books. She's got television production companies interested in her work. She's got a beautiful family. She is the Poetic Novelist. JJ Savaunt has it all. I'm proud to be her.
